&lt;p&gt;I actually responded to her in an email.  Here&#039;s some of what I said:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;while not perfect, the so-called web 2.0 revolution has re-introduced the idea of collective, group action to millions of people.  While friending people and even building many-thousands strong groups on Facebook won&#039;t necessarily change the world (I&#039;m not convinced that physical marches do either...), they are orienting people in the ways of organizing and social action for the first sustained way in a generation.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;If there is collective action to be had, it&#039;s gonna happen online, with offline correlates. &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
